Auckland's favourite surf beach

Piha is a major summer attraction, drawing large crowds to this fabulous beach on New Zealand's rugged West Coast. Surf patrolled during summer months, this beach caters for thousands of visitors per day. Piha is the birthplace of surfing in New Zealand. Interestingly, board riding was introduced by 2 Californian lifeguards in 1956. Another feature of this famous surf beach is Lion Rock, which majestically overlooks the Pacific Ocean.

Location: 40 kilometres from Auckland city, situated on the West Coast of the North Island, New Zealand

Attractions: Surrounded by rugged cliffs, the beach is situated in the Waitakere Ranges, a protected forest which features bush walks.
