Whangaroa is indubitably the Game fishing capital of New Zealand. Game fishing in the Whangaroa Harbour originated in 1925 when Captain L.D. Mitchell and Zane Gray weighed in fish, and became the founding members of the club. With its beautiful tranquil beaches and un spoilt scenery, Whangaroa is a pristine holiday destination. Along with restaurants and bars, there is a wide variety of accommodation. The local hotel offers lovely bistro type meals and friendly locals will make you feel welcome. There is a camping ground close to the beach, which is an ideal location for swimming and fishing, and boating.
