CENTRAL WEST COAST

Back on the coast, the former gold rush town of Hokitika has plenty of reminders of its hard, pioneering past. Just 10km south of Hoktika gorge is extremely photogenic, with glacier-blue water rushing through the hardwood forest to a swing bridge across the river.

The busy town of Greymouth provides an ideal base from which to enjoy all the activities and attractions the northern section of Central West Coast region has to offer. Its location right at the mouth of the Gray River makes the township a perfect spot to try your hand at both fly fishing and sea fishing.
